Perlite is a volcanic rock that has been superheated into very lightweight expanded glass pebbles. It is an inert medium used in potting soil mixes to decrease soil density. It is highly popular amongst hydroponic growers in dutch bucket type setups for its ability to provide aeration and the other factor beign reusability. A mix in the ratio of 3:2 (cocpeat: perlite)is considered ideal for germination and as potting mix for indoor plants.
